Missouri State University (MSU) settled a lawsuit with former student Emily Booker over her claim that the university "engaged in unlawful retaliation against Ms. Booker's protected expression, deprived her of equal protection and due process, and prevented her from full membership in MSU's academic community."
Booker charged that her professor required all students in her class to sign a statement to the state legislature supporting gay adoptions, and that when she refused out of closely held religious beliefs, her professor retaliated by filing a trumped-up grievance charge against her. Further, Booker asserts that she was forced, under protest, to sign a contract regarding the compatibility of her Christian beliefs and the social worker code of ethics.
